Imagine you’ve chosen a spot in an uncovered parking area (day or night doesn’t really matter based on the latest data available). What could possibly go wrong? What would you say if you knew that a new generation of thieves is exploiting a certain method to grab cars, motorbikes etc. literally right under your nose?
This article is a referance to the theft of vehicles using the Towing method, which will make you question the places you park in order to think twice about whether it’s okay where you have left your vehicle.
Now, the perpetrators are equipped with knowledge and precision. The towing theft incidents we have observed include small trucks, which criminals use to pull (tow) or push the vehicle from the parking lot.
To move a vehicle effectively, one has to know what needs to be “cut.” In such a scenario, the vehicle can be relatively simply unblocked (without violating the interior).
In another similar scenario (by violating the interior as well), criminals do something slightly different. Instead of “hanging or tie” the vehicle on their own vehicle, they prefer to push it. The thieves engage in this behavior because they are adept at manipulating not only the vehicle’s movement but also the steering wheel, enabling them to maneuver it.
Like in most cases of theft, this method also takes from a few seconds to a few minutes (tops). The result is known to most — another vehicle pulls in the long list of stolen vehicles, of which according to the H.P. (Hellenic Police) only 1 in 10* thefts are detected.
